Mission Statement

Our mission at Metro Transport is to provide quality transportation services for seniors and adults with special needs living within the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest area regardless of their ability to pay for these services.

Overview

Metro Transport is a non-profit community transportation program that provides rides to senior citizens and adults with special needs, regardless of their ability to pay. Established in September 2003 with seed funding from The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey, Metro Transport has been providing medical and social/quality of life transportation to senior and adults with special needs throughout Essex, and parts of Morris and Union Counties in New Jersey. Metro Transport is a collaborative program between Daughters of Israel and the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater MetroWest NJ.

Currently Provide: Approximately 6,000 rides annually.

Subsidies: An income based subsidy program funded in part by The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey and the Plafsky Family Endowment Fund is available to those who cannot afford to pay for all of part of their ride.

Cost of One Round Trip: $2.50 per town zone, each way.

Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.

Transportation Service Provided To:

  • Medical Appointments (routine appts., chemo/radiation, same day surgery)
  • The JCC and Affiliated Senior Centers
  • Nursing Homes and Hospital Visits

Reservations

New clients must first complete a Client Intake form, which can be downloaded here. Please print the form and mail back to Daughters of Israel.

To make a reservation, both new and existing clients must submit a Reservation Request Form. There are two ways to submit the reservation form:

Our Gym

  • Expert On-site Medical Care including a board-certified physiatrist, board-certified geriatricians, and registered nurses on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Real-Life Skills

Getting back on your feet is just one aspect of our multi-faceted approach to rehabilitation therapy. Our program incorporates the practice of real-life skills with equipment such as a transfer training car to enable our clients to practice getting in and out of a car. Our state-of-the-art bi-level therapeutic kitchen enables our clients to re-learn kitchen skills whether standing or in a wheelchair.

Innovative Treatments and Technology

Daughters of Israel is one of the few facilities in the region to offer the specialized Accelerated Care Plus (ACP) modality program. ACP's pain management techniques – which incorporates the use of Electrotherapy, Therapeutic Ultrasound, Short-Wave Diathermy and Infrared Therapy – helps to improve patient outcomes and optimize functionality gains. In addition, the modalities introduce new treatment options for patients with more medically complex conditions.

Expert and Caring Staff

Upon admission to our sub-acute rehabilitation unit, our concierge and social workers help insure that our new clients transition is as smooth as possible and see to it that their needs are being taken care of. Our rehab facility has a renowned physiatrist on staff, as well as a team of highly-trained occupational, physical and speech therapists. Our facility's medical director, geriatricians, registered nurses, and certified nurse assistants provide daily care and supervision to our rehab clients.

Our sub-acute unit also has its own activities schedule and staff, who encourage all of our rehab clients to participate in a level they are comfortable with.
